Injuries
Injuries, whether from accidents, sports, or daily activities, can disrupt your life and make it hard to stay active. Our chiropractors in Orléans provide rehabilitative care to help you recover from injuries and prevent future ones. We focus on restoring proper alignment and function so your body can heal naturally. Here are some common injury-related issues we can assist with:
Disc Injury
Have you been told that you have a slipped disc or a disc injury? They can vary from slight to severe, but most require the attention of a trained chiropractor.

The little pads that lie between your vertebrae are called the intervertebral discs; each of which has a tough outer ring and a soft gel-like center. Your discs both join and separate your vertebrae. These discs serve as cushions or shock absorbers so that the bones don’t make contact with each other as you move. Without discs, we would literally be unable to move our upper torso.
If you are diagnosed with a protruding disc it means that the gel is pushed out or bulging, and is asymmetrical in different places. This may result in pinching and irritation of the nerve roots at that point.
A herniated disc happens when the disc material ruptures to the point that the gel pushes outward. This can also cause pain and numbness due to the irritation of the nerves and can be very serious in some cases.
A disc extrusion is the worst type of disc injury. What it means is that the gel balloons extensively into the area outside the vertebrae or breaks off from the disc. This tends to result in considerable back pain and limitation of range of motion.
If you're suffering from a disc injury call our team at New Freedom Chiropractic today. We are here to help.
Motor Vehicle Injury
A car collision, even a “minor” fender-bender, can lead to some not-so-minor injuries. The most well- known is whiplash, which occurs commonly in rear-end accidents. Whiplash is essentially a neck sprain/strain injury caused by the sudden jerking motion of the head whipping backward and forward. It can also affect the mid-back and lower back depending on the impact. After an accident, you might feel neck pain, stiffness, headaches, dizziness, or even tingling in the arms (from irritated nerves).

Interestingly, symptoms of whiplash don’t always show up immediately; it might be 24-48 hours (or even weeks) after the accident that you start noticing how sore and restricted your neck is. This delay is one reason people sometimes underestimate their injuries initially. Aside from whiplash, car accidents can cause lower back injuries (from the seatbelt or bracing your foot), shoulder injuries, or soft tissue injuries like muscle tears and ligament sprains. If the crash was more severe, you might also be dealing with bruises, seatbelt abrasions, or even concussions.
Gentle adjustments and targeted exercises can alleviate pain from a motor vehicle accident and restore your range of motion. We’ll guide your recovery so you can get back to normal activities and help prevent long-term issues. Book today!
Sports Injury
Athletes routinely and continually put their bodies through an extremely high level of physical stress. These stressors are different than what we experience as a result of too much school work or demands from the boss at work. Sports participation often involves quick starts and stops, explosive jumping or running, collisions, and atypical body postures that put added demands on the body's physical structure. Therefore, whether you are a football player, wrestler, golfer, or runner, chiropractic can provide the assistance your body needs to be able to adapt to these added stresses. Often, these unusual stresses cause the bones in our back to come out of place. The effects of these changes create a cascade that often leads to loss of motion, flexibility, and speed while increasing the chances of developing headaches or predisposing the body to future athletic-related injuries. For example, many long-distance runners have been shown to develop chronic cases of tendonitis and pain throughout the joints in their legs. Typically, they are prescribed a pain killer to mask the symptoms of pain, providing short-term relief. If pain killers were the real solution to the problem, why would they have to be continually taken?
The truth is that many sports-related injuries begin due to nerve interference caused by misalignments in our joints, primarily the spine. Our chiropractors at New Freedom Chiropractic are specially trained at removing this type of interference. When this nerve interference is removed, the body experiences an increase in blood flow, higher immune system function, proper motor pattern firing, and overall better health. As a result, athletes receiving care at our clinic have noticed increased flexibility, speed, agility, and power during sports participation. These types of results have been seen at chiropractic clinics all across the country. In fact, a recent study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Research and Investigation showed that as much as 32% of athletes receiving chiropractic care experienced these results and an even higher percentage showed a decrease in the number of injuries sustained during sports participation.

When Should You See a Chiropractor as an Athlete?
Athletes should not wait to see a chiropractor until an injury has occurred. Finding problem area in your spine that are vulnerable to injury, and correcting the problems first, is far wiser. While chiropractic has been proven to be an excellent source for injury rehabilitation and healing, it is an even better resource for preventing the damage from happening. Chiropractors view the body as a whole, taking into account all aspects of health. Our team at New Freedom Chiropractic has the resources to provide adjustive procedures, physical therapy, and soft tissue massage to address the nervous, skeletal, muscular, and ligamentous systems. Through this approach, the body is allowed to function at its optimal level, keeping you off the bench and sidelined with injuries throughout the season.
As Jerry Rice said, "Chiropractic care helped me stay healthy and succeed in the league for as long as I did."
