Our doctors at New Freedom Chiropractic have found over many years that misalignments (subluxations) of the vertebrae in the neck and lower back are responsible for the vast majority of extremity pain. Subluxations cause irritation to the surrounding tissues including the nerves.
Many people are surprised when they see that many of the nerves in our body travel from our spine all the way to the ends of our fingertips and toes. As a result, injuries to the vertebrae in the spine can create the sensation of pain anywhere along our arms and legs. Arm & Leg Pain
Arm and leg pain, shoulder, hip, knee pain can be caused by overuse from and activity, or develop over time gradually.Vertebral subluxations, arthritis, bursitis, carpal tunnel, tendinitis, and frozen shoulder develop over time. Arm and leg pain are often originating from the nerves exiting the spine, “referred pain”.
We see patients who present with arm and leg pain that is being referred from nerve irritation that begins at the spine. If the spaces where the nerves leave the spine become narrowed due to the vertebrae being out of position, the nerve becomes irritated and often produces pain down its entire path. The pain patterns associated with sciatica are a good example of this mechanism.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain can be the result of an injury to the rotator cuff, such as a muscle tear, tendinitis, acromioclavicular joint (AC joint) sprain or tear. In the case of frozen shoulder, there is usually damage in the lower neck as the root cause. If the shoulders are rolled forward because of head forward posture, the shoulders will be chronically strained because of the head position. Correcting the cause requires a thorough chiropractic exam and the right diagnosis first.
Carpel Tunnel
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome causes pain, numbness, or tingling in the hand and wrist when the median nerve is compressed. The root of carpal tunnel pain is often from damage in the lower neck, where the nerves for the arm exit the spine. Neck subluxation (misalignments) can affect the nerve pathway. While many people seek treatment through surgical means, our team at New Freedom Chiropractic has had great success in treating carpel tunnel syndrome through non-invasive adjustments to the bones of the wrist, and correcting the root cause in the lower neck.
The most appropriate treatment for your carpal tunnel syndrome largely depends on the underlying cause. As with most conditions, it is advised that patients begin with a non-invasive and more affordable treatment. While prescription medications, decompression surgeries, and forms of physical therapy may provide short-term relief, the symptoms often reappear without the correction of the nerve interference in the spine. Following spinal corrections, many patients experience substantial improvements in their symptoms.
