Some of you were probably wondering what's up with playing Mister Rogers in the office. No, we haven't completely lost it! Yes, a new Mister Rogers documentary (click here to view the trailer
) is coming out soon, but that's not the reason.
Remember when LIFE was SIMPLE?
My very good friend, Dr. Jason Wiebe, spoke at the Warrior Coaching Leadership conference recently. He titled his talk, "Remember when LIFE was SIMPLE?"
He talked about our Warrior code: we achieve MORE by DOING LESS ... intentional SIMPLICITY.
He used Mister Rogers as an example. Mister Roger's Neighborhood was on television for 33 years, with 895 episodes!! Every show he came in the door, sang the same song, took off his suit jacket, put on a sweater, took off his shoes, and put on his sneakers. In all those years on TV, the format or style never really changed!
In the 60's, JFK was shot, the nations were on the brink of war. In the 70's, racial tensions were high, high divorce rates, lack of morality was at its peak, and families were disintegrating. In the 80's, consumerism was raging, and it was all about getting more stuff. In the 90's, abusive power was the rage.
In 2001, planes were flying into the World Trade Center, and a new era of fear entered. Mister Rogers was off air by then, but came back with a special message to the world
. He encouraged hope, confidence, forgiveness and love.
